If you get a CD directly from a bank, instead of a brokered CD, you may need to be careful when the CD matures. Direct CDs often automatically renew at a low rate you would not want unless you take action within a short "grace period". Brokered CDs, OTOH, will just pay out to your settlement fund and the money will just sit there until you decide to do something else with it. There are no "gotchas" with the brokered CDs.
