If PIMCO Total Return in the plan is a share class of PTTRX for 0.2162%, that is a good deal. PTTRX is usually has an ER of about 0.46%. This is an actively managed fund with a long successful track record. It is slightly riskier than a total bond index fund and generally has had a slightly higher return:

If you confirm that is what the fund is, you could use it in lieu of a total bond index fund if you prefer an intermediate term bond fund.

The short-term bond index fund also is fine if you prefer to stick to low cost bond index funds. The term premium and credit risk premiums of the PIMCO fund are not guaranteed to deliver, but the ER savings with the short-term bond index fund is all but guaranteed.
