I was thinking the Roth could potentially be a good source of income for a large, one-time purchase in retirement,

Of course a withdrawal from a Roth account is not income. It is cash, however.

The lion’s share of our retirement accounts are in traditional IRAs. As such we basically plan on never spending from our Roth accounts.
