FWIW, Vanguard Research in a Dec 2023 report said, "Given changing risk/return tradeoffs, the TVAA (time varying asset allocation) portfolio reflects a decrease of 19 percentage points in the equity allocation relative to a 60% stock/40% bond benchmark, ... results in an expected return similar to that of the 60/40 benchmark, but with lower volatility. This comes at the expense of active risk (tracking error relative to the benchmark) of 3.4%."
In other words, a 40/60 portfolio now will perform like a 60/40 in the past.
