"Recommended to use something like Google Voice for 2FA to thwart any SIM hijack attacks"
Is Google Voice more secure than using a cell phone company number?
Most people have multiple devices (desktops, laptops, phones, tablets, etc.) logged into their Google account, and each such device would provide access to getting a 2FA code. So an intruder would just need to hack into any one of these devices to be able to use it for 2FA codes.
In contrast, if you use your cell phone number, they could get your 2FA codes by only a SIM hijack or hacking your phone.
How easy is it to commit a SIM hijack compared to hacking any one of your devices--using phishing or some other method?
