Lower middle class upbringing.
Key was a focus on education from my parents, especially math.
The rest came naturally.

What career did math lead you to? Are you able to share?

My kid loves math but doesn't know what to study in college.

I would suggest the computer sciences, if he has any interest in it. The mentality is similar generally (technical analysis) and the job market remains strong.
