A few years back we did a 2-week September trip to Barcelona and adjacent southwest France with our 2 young children, ages 5 and 2 at the time. We stayed in the the village of Uzes in France, about a 4 hour drive from Barcelona. It was a lovely village, very walkable. The Airbnb we stayed was 1000-year-old house!
From Uzes we did day trips to Nimes (there is a colosseum there) and to the Pont du Gard, both very fun. The Haribo factory is also outside of Uzes for the gummy bear connoisseurs in the group.
2-3 days is not a lot of time, I'd stick to one other location besides Barcelona.
