You highlight my conundrum. Yes I love driving our Forester and Outbacks. Yes I love the layout and drive.
But I simply do not trust any extended warranty, there are always loopholes and gotchas.
Buying with a maintenance package and an extended manufacturer warranty is the way to go. You can usually buy one - or both - even for a second hand used vehicle if it’s still relatively new.

Manufacturers are aware that modern vehicles require regular maintenance, that issues can compound if they’re not taken care of, and that a certain portion of their customer base can’t be bothered to care. So, they ‘subsidize’ maintenance for a certain number of years - dealers like it as well because they get more chances to upsell you on a new vehicle.

You get the benefit of buying at a better point in the depreciation curve, warranty coverage, and none of the hassles that come along with a lease.
Cost wise yes, it’s a good time to but when purchasing a car. But i am generally weary of buying any insurance/warranty. Unless backed by Subaru directly, 3r d party insurers tend to be bad at paying claims and they go out of business.
Most manufacturers do this in house.

At least, I know that Audi, MB, BMW, and Suzuki do. Whether Subaru also does, and whether this is offered by them in the states, I don’t know but I would be somewhat surprised if it isn’t.
