I work part-time as a PA in surgery, working with 5 surgeons regularly and upwards of 10 others infrequently. I do not know where any of them went to school. About once/year a patient will ask me where a surgeon went to school, often in the pre-op area right before an emergency procedure. Not only do I not know, I am tempted to ask "what else are you going to do, it is 11pm....are you going to call some other surgeon?"
Ironically, our office has one terrible surgeon in both technique and personality.....I am told he went to an ivy school and residency....
Agree with CBC2002 above -- make a plan, separate out the feelings you have at work, focus on where you would like to be one year from now, two years from now but do not do anything rash.
