I question whether the required classes for the AA are transferable to your state college or university. My child's school district offers an opportunity to earn your associates degree for free while in high school.
Meanwhile, your child's high school transcript will be missing subjects that are required for admission to a 4-year college or university. There's something to be said for a more well-rounded education than the one subject that you're interested in. Even if you don't travel, you should still know something about the geography and cultures of the world. Even if you never author a book, it's worth knowing proper grammar and some classic books. Even if you aren't interested in the arts, you should participate in one of them so you can learn another way of expressing yourself through music, acting, or art. And if you don't know history, you could repeat the mistakes of the past while not realizing where you fit in, in the big picture.
