Nope, you won't be "good" at those things probably. But turns out you don't have to be. Show up. Show some honest interest. It works!
Also if you have ever lost anyone (or anything, like your former house), consider a grief group. A dear friend met his now 2nd wife at one. Maybe keep it to yourself if you are grieving the loss of your house and somebody else lost a person. But it sort of does sound like you are grieving.
You might indeed meet someone who makes a big difference to your life. To keep it to finances, maybe join a local Bogleheads group
