The sweating the small stuff has less to do with net worth and more with the balance between time and money.

When you are younger, you may do the oil change and repairs on your own car because you lack fund or want to save money or enjoy the challenge. You shop for food carefully looking for sales.

Jump forward a decade or two you just drop your kids off at school. You get a call afterward that they forgot the computer which you rush to drop off after you wait in line with the other parents also dropping off their kids missing computer. At lunch, you rush to get missing grocery missed during the weekend or got used up. You want to get the best price but you only have half an hour and the store did out of that item so you rush to another store. You pick up your kids but they have band in an hour so you rush to a fast food place to get them something quick. Your car is now overdue for an oil change but you put it off a bit until you find a window to drop off the car. By this time your net worth is probably higher but this is not why you stop sweating the small stuff. You stop because you can no longer afford the time to sweat the small stuff.
