Yeah, I don't really agree with keep on working if you're a homebody.
I woke up mid week and just decided it was time and turned in my notice - early retired at 53.
There was no big plan or discussion for months on end. Don't overthink it. Some people just know.
Those that think they need a plan or a transition may never retire because they are afraid of not having a fully thought out plan.
