I read with great interest the footer to another BH’s messages saying that at some point, you are trading time you’ll never get back for money you’ll never spend. With that in mind, although my job is generally fine, I have settled into the idea of retiring in about 18 months, at 61. As I do, I am mindful of the incredible group of people who have helped us through our journey - school, marriage, children (now great young adults), a long and successful career, and the challenges that go with all those things. I am thinking of throwing a retirement bash by renting a huge house (think 10+ BRs) for 12 days and inviting our families for the first 5-6 days, and then the group of 8 guys I have known and loved like brothers since we were teenagers for the last 5-6 days. (Doing it in the reverse order could be a bad idea for a few reasons.)
More people would come if we stay in the US, and specifically in the Western US, so I was thinking about Lake Tahoe. I have only gone there once, and it seems like a great combination of beautiful scenery, outdoor activities like boating, biking, hiking, or even scuba diving, and enough places to go out to eat or shop without fighting big city traffic.
Any recommendations for other similar places we should consider? Or if we go to Tahoe, things we should make sure to do, or recommendations where to stay? All advice welcome. Thanks very much!
