Way back when I was a graduate student in the late '70s, I received a letter from a collection agency about an unpaid utility bill for someone with a very similar name who had recently lived in my apartment building. I responded with a letter pointing out the differences in name, apartment number and timeline. I never heard from them again.
Shortly afterwards, one of my office-mates said to me, "hey, some big beefy guy was looking for you this afternoon", and my mind raced. Fortunately, it turned out to be merely one of my students with a question about a homework assignment.![8-)]( "Cool")
