Sure, it can be more relaxing to be deprived of any decisionmaking power, but I don't like it.
One of the primary benefits of bonds is their ability to diversify equities portfolios. Treating bonds as something similar to a ladder of CDs can lead to a preference for shorter durations which could further reduce the diversification benefit of longer durations (and especially treasuries).
But that's not something that's inherent in buying individual bonds. And it's equally possible for someone who invests in bond funds to buy short term or ultra short term funds.
