Over the last ten years its performed almost exactly the same as the S&P 500 index with a little more risk, little lower sharpe & sortino ratios, and a higher max drawdown with a higher correlation to the market than Apple... its characteristics seem basically as unique as others...Well, today on a day when every other holding I have (all indexes) lost value, Berkshire gained 0.54%. I initially invested about 5% of my portfolio in Berkshire (windfall inheritance) for tax efficiency and a modicum of entertainment - and it's now grown to nearly 9% due to its outperformance. It may technically be a single stock, but its diverse holdings, vast cash reserves, and unique structural advantages in being the private equity lender of first resort give it characteristics unlike any other.
It really isn't some sort of novel unique stock.
