Early 60s and retired. Home is 6.88% of net worth. No debt of any kind. If I bought a second home, I would not want my homes to be more than 20% of total net worth/assets. This is, I need 80% of my net worth (investments) to be able to cash flow (3% withdrawal rate or less) my living expenses including both home expenses. Otherwise, I just stay with 1 home and rent vacation property. I am fairly conservative on the amount of assets needed to cover living expenses and do not include any potential cash flow from rental of the second home.
As for non-home real estate allocation, I think that is a personal decision based on comfort level and knowledge of real estate investments.
