Personal Investments • Planning on rolling over 401k to Vanguard this Friday

I was in the process of initiating a rollover of my 401k (pre-tax and Roth) from my former employer to Vanguard. Last week I sent over the instructions from Vanguard to my 401k admin and sat on the phone with them to update the financial data that then has to sit for 7 calendar days before they will cut the checks to mail over. The admin estimated that it'll take around 10 business days for the check to be deposited, funds to clear and settle.

In light of financial news this week I'm worried about how long the rollover amount will be out of the market in the event of a rebound or rally.

Leaving the funds in the existing 401k is an option but I'm now being charged a $2.81 monthly admin fee for that privilege. I'm fully aware that day-to-day volatility during a transfer will negate that by magnitudes.

This might feel like a market timing question but I'm fully invested at the moment, just trying to determine the best time to do a rollover. No issues waiting till Q4 to make the move.

My current 401k allocation is:

65% Total US Equities
25% Total International Equities
10% Total US Bonds

Thanks in advance!
Really!!! $2.81/month is an actual concern? This has to be a total troll. DM me you mailing address and the next time I am at the post office, l will send you 3 months worth. All you need to do is convince me $3/mnth is meaningful.

As to the time to do this, you notice that the broad indices basically finished flat for this week. August is historically a more volatile month and this year with a compressed presidential election could make things more volatile, but volatility can help or hurt if you are in this for a long term odds are it really won’t matter. Also realize, that you will have the s@me $ invested so it really just does not matter. But if you think you can time the next dip (remember you want to sell high right before the dip and then rebuy at the bottom, so what appears to have concerned you was actually an opportunity), go for it. Again also recall you can do this same thing with one account. Just sell at the peak and rebuy at the bottom. So yes, it is market timing.
