I run Ubuntu in VMware Player, and it defaults to Wayland for me. My OpenBSD VM is using their patched Xenocara, which is basically X.org plus patches. I get more into the nuts and bolts with OpenBSD than Ubuntu, where I’m either running xfce4 or connecting via ssh.A PSU will get an event at the next boot, e.g. something similar to "The previous system shutdown was unexpected". (From an earlier post here.)...A PSU issue wouldn't get an event log. What about cpu overheat?
Remember you have two fans to check - The CPU fan and the PSU fan. The CPU gets very hot, very quickly. If the CPU fan is not spinning, it will shutdown in no time flat. Caution: Don't touch the CPU. We're looking at temperatures 90+ deg C.Thanks. I'm using Gnome and my desktop choices at login are "Ubuntu" and "Ubuntu on Xorg". The first choice looks OK. The second, not so much. I also have the Cinnamon desktop installed and it offers Wayland as experimental.I thought Linux defaults to Wayland now.
NV has never been open source friendly. I wish you the best of luck. AMD/ATI is my go to for open source. Otherwise, I’d default to my Intel CPU/GPU.
What I didn’t know was if your driver was for Wayland or X.org. I typically avoid NV for both Linux and OBSD. It’s fine for games and ML on windows. But it definitely doesn’t work on OBSD. And I haven’t done much experimenting with Linux.
