Cosmetic only, but that can be functional if you do a lot of work in the garage. Having the floor bright, clean, and cleanable is nice. As is finishing the other aspects of the garage (insulation, drywall/paint, lighting, heating, etc).In general I prefer a natural look. A few questions:
- Is there a downside to just living with the non-finished garage floor, other than cosmetic?
To me, yes.- Is is recommended/desirable to have it finished?
When I did mine it was 2 coats of epoxy with the paint flakes, followed by a clear coat that has sand mixed in. The sand offers good slip safety - better than the paint flakes which are more cosmetic (and you don't have to put them on as thick as your pics).- If I just do a seal is it going to be too slippery for safe use during wet weather?
You can just omit the paint flakes, and do the clear coat with sand. But you will see any imperfections that the flakes hide, so I would go with flakes. Personal preference in the end.- Are there any other options for epoxy that allow it to be less slippery without the cluttered/spotted look?
There are posts on the forum about epoxy garage floor if you search. Good luck.
