Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Teen wreck - insurance question

To clarify she’s a listed driver on the policy- everything is above board with the policy, etc - when she had her permit she was under my driving record so all the cars were cheap for full coverage (she just got her license a few weeks ago) - that’s the piece I haven’t updated yet so it still had full coverage. Basically we don’t plan to make a claim but if insurance is going to increase our premiums anyway then we will submit. I think it would be the $4-5k to fix it all but it appears like a good amount would just be cosmetic that we just wouldn’t fix those parts.
I recommend calling your insurance agent to discuss appropriate next steps. It’s their job to counsel you on options.

Her accident will show up on future motor vehicle reports since it was reported to the police. Every insurance company runs these reports when you take out a new policy or as part of their renewal process. Unfortunately a single car “phantom car accident” for a young driver will most likely result in higher premiums for you in the future.
