I am sure that the host will let you cancel your reservation if you are not willing to provide a copy of your DL (your option 3). However, what do you have to lose with option 2?
To those that think this is ridiculous, it is not any different than a hotel requiring your ID. My guess is that a host is less likely to have a data breach than a major hotel chain. Also, it may depend on the property being rented. If it is a million dollar property, it is more than reasonable for a host to check an ID in my opinion. This helps ensure the person is who they say they are and to verify that the person is of a certain age if there are age limit restrictions. Also, I would be curious to know how this is asked to be collected. I didn't see where OP mentioned this but may have missed that.
