Personal Investments • Back Door Roth with Rollover / After Tax $ in 401K

So in evaluating my 401k, I do have another chunk of funds that are "After-Tax" where all but $500 are truly after-tax, whereas the other $500 is considered earnings and not yet taxed. I can do an in-plan conversion to Roth but will be taxed on the $500. Is that LTCG tax or ordinary income tax?

Thanks!
Ordinary income tax.
