Personal Consumer Issues • Join a gym? Is it worth it?

Holy smokes, you Bogleheads are cheap! I belong to a Lifetime Fitness - $230/month. Wouldn't go for anything less. The facilities are a huge incentive to work out. I'd sell my dog before I dropped that gym membership.

IMO, that's insane. Are you getting a personal trainer included with every workout or something? Otherwise there's just no way I could see a gym membership being worth 10-20x what I can pay for a Gold's / Planet Fitness membership. For the $2700 you spend in a single year you could buy a pretty good set of home equipment and then be covered for many years.
