For clarification, the OP sent me a private message asking if he could post about a portfolio with 5 % bitcoin. I pointed him to the wiki Having a play money account, specifically Note 1 of that section and suggested he keep it within those limits.NOTE: Special request and permission was granted to post this topic, which details an investment strategy that contains a 5% allocation to Bitcoin. Cryptocurrency discussions are not allowed on this forum, so for the purposes of this thread, we can simply talk about the overall merits of the portfolio/strategy. The 5% Bitcoin slice can be considered as part of Bogle’s “fun money” allocation for speculation. Or, alternatively, there is a Boglehead-friendly version of this approach that simply replaces Bitcoin with more gold (this is exhibited at the end of my OP). Hopefully with these guardrails, we can have a productive discussion on the merits of this approach without veering off base. Either way, I’m grateful to be able to talk shop with you fine people...
There is a misunderstanding, as no special permission is granted to discuss bitcoion. As long as the the intent is to follow the Bogleheads investment philosophy and the amount of bitcoin is an insignificant part of the portfolio, this discussion can continue.
