Personal Consumer Issues • Chrysler Pacifica Platinum AWD V6: Experience, feedback, to buy or not to buy?

We've reached 5 yrs & 75k miles on our Pacifica (non-hybrid), purchased new.

We've been very satisfied. It isn't showing much wear, and we've had relatively few problems. We love the comfort on road trips, and how open and bright the interior feels with the panoramic roof. The fold-flat 2nd row is nice to have. We get 30-31mpg average on long freeway trips.

My main gripe is the transmission. I don't like the ZF 9-speed, which incidentally was also used in the Honda Pilot. It upshifts too early, the gear ratio steps above 4th are too wide, and design/packaging compromises (use of dog clutches) make certain downshifts unrefined.

Repairs:
-panoramic sunroof power shade came off track. It needed a replacement shade under warranty. No issues since.
-replaced a sliding door latch mechanism under warranty due to minor rattle
-engine batteries have failed twice, at ~2 yr intervals. In both instances, the auxiliary stop/start battery failed prematurely, dragging the main battery down with it. Never had to jump start. Covered under warranty.

Maintenance:
-oil changes, filters, wipers
-1 new set of tires
-still on original brakes. They last forever!

Anecdotally, friends with Honda Odysseys have had more significant repairs, including transmission replacements, and always seem to have warped brake rotors. Their interiors are not holding up well either.

If I were shopping for a new minivan now, I'd likely buy another Pacifica or a Kia Carnival. I find the Honda to be too utilitarian (even for a minivan) and the Sienna hybrid underpowered.
