The last time I flew first class was on my honeymoon about 40 years ago. My wife was a fight attendant for an airline and we had tickets to fly to Maui which were coach and free, if there were open seats. We arrived in Los Angeles the night of our wedding. We were scheduled to leave for Maui the following morning and the flight was wide open for empty seats for “non rev” passengers. The next morning waiting for the flight to begin boarding, up walks a large group of Japanese school kids. They had booked all of the :Pavailable coach seats. My options were to scramble to find another flight or pay full fare for first class tickets. We flew first class! When the crew heard our story and learned about the honeymoon they comp d us a free bottle of champagne. Most expensive bottle of wine I ever bought!
I wondered at the time if that expense was an omen of things to come with married life. I won t give the answer to that.
