Personal Consumer Issues • What Kind of Generator Do you Use for your Home Backup?

Sasquatch22,
As an older couple in mid to late 80s we installed the same unit as you 4 years ago with the ATS and paid $10,500 total. The company we purchased it from installed it with local Metro electric and gas representatives on-site to monitor and accept the installation when completed. We had to increase the natural gas meter size to properly handle the requirements of the Generac 22Kw unit and the gas company did that without charge. The new unit at the time came with a 7-year extended warranty from Generac itself. Since then we have had one 24-hour outage and a couple of shorter ones .

In accordance with "Murphy's Law" we had a 72-hour outage just prior to its installation that helped us make our decision to purchase the unit. We are very pleased with it and I have to call this week to set up our annual maintenance service. Some younger people could do that themselves, but at my age of 87 that work goes to the installing company. So far we have had the same technician for all the service calls and I find him to be very knowledgeable in the technical aspects of the unit. :D
