In town, The National Museum of Nuclear Science and History is great and unique.
I second this recommendation, but then I grew up next to an active missile base.

It is better than the Las Vegas National Atomic Testing Museum, with great docents, more planes including a B-52, missiles, rockets, and a partial submarine/Polaris missile. It has interesting stuff from the 40s and 50s and 60s .... including a tactical nuclear recoilless gun that had a range of 2 km, and when I was there, an interactive room of Da Vinci Machines, The Exhibition.
