I second this recommendation, but then I grew up next to an active missile base.In town, The National Museum of Nuclear Science and History is great and unique.
It is better than the Las Vegas National Atomic Testing Museum, with great docents, more planes including a B-52, missiles, rockets, and a partial submarine/Polaris missile. It has interesting stuff from the 40s and 50s and 60s .... including a tactical nuclear recoilless gun that had a range of 2 km, and when I was there, an interactive room of Da Vinci Machines, The Exhibition.
