Intense saving for retirement pays twice. Once for the future retirement income, with the second benefit of the new retiree being already acclimated to a reduced spending level. Doesn't it seem wise to test drive living on your future retirement income?

My conversions from tIRA to Roth IRA are now golden due to their high stock exposure while my RMDs are reduced due to the bond funds stored in the tIRA. The reduced income in early retirement helps with having more space in lower tax brackets when doing annual Roth conversions in those pre-Social Security years.
