It looks to me the cumulative aspect is only cumulative from the beginning of that particular phase of outperformance - which does mean there was some criteria of where that cutoff was. Nonetheless I still think it is an interest chart.

For all of this debate, the history really comes down to a few factors

- Japan Rise
- Japan fall
-US big tech outperformance.

There are other minor trends in there but those 3 are the major drivers. So really the future will likely depend on some other trend, that we likely don’t even fully realize yet.

A big part of people tilting to International seems to be a hope that a Japan happens again.

Which it could. But it wasn't like in general International did great... It was Japan going from near-zero to one thousand over a generation.
Nope.

From 1950-2018, EU outperformed US

International has had fine returns over the last 70 years even without the rise of Japan
