Investing - Theory, News & General • International (Non-US) versus US Equities (The "Arguments")

It’s funny, I thought I remembered you, as being one of the big international balanced guys. Welcome to the dark side!
As mentioned, I used to have a higher int'l allocation a decade or more ago (including a heavy allocation to unhedged foreign bonds). Since then, I settled on 10% to 12% of equities in int'l (and no foreign bonds). So, in terms of the OP's Page 1 vernacular, I'm one of "The Compromise" guys (and a bit tamer than the 20% indicated there).
What they are is one of the reasonable people who is good at presenting a logical argument from any perspective, and who always manages to stay polite.

Teachable moments.
Thank you for your support.
No my recollection is he was one of the international advocates. I think there’s like four or five who swear it’s foolish If you do anything other than a fully balanced world portfolio. Until very recently, I haven’t seen people advocating for one side, and then advocating for the other side. I think Craig, tester, Han solo, you, I think, upper N W maybe, a couple others.
Sometimes I spar with people on points of reasoning, even if my conclusions about allocation might be similar to theirs. Earlier in the thread, someone rejected "diversification" as a reason to include int'l, which I think is a valid reason to include it, but I'm not saying that this forces a conclusion. There are valid reasons to do, and valid reasons not to do, and it's everyone's legitimate right to decide for themselves (as I said, everyone gets to captain their own ship). But when people use their reasons to say "this is why other people are wrong", sometimes I react to that.

That being said, I'm a "mostly US" guy myself, and I think I can agree with a lot of what you said about it, at least hypothetically (even while I see nothing wrong with people going world market cap for whatever reasons... I just don't do it myself).
For all of the thousands of international versus USA threads, I usually end by saying let’s just agree to disagree. As long as you’re happy with your choices, and I am happy with my choices, we can let sleeping dogs lie. But a lot of times the international guys say no you clearly don’t understand the issues. I’m like yes I do. I just come to different conclusions.
What does it mean when you say "the international guys"?

Are you saying people who saying you should overweight international?
