If you just stick the device up with velcro or another sticky tape, you can be sure that it will eventually come loose. Sooner if it is a warm climate and room temperature ventures high at times. I would drill or just directly run a couple of screws in, maybe with a layer of clear caulk at the point of the screw entry.
IMHO the benefit of the alarm outweighs the other considerations.
