I’ve owned some really nice cars, six figure stickers among them, but the thought of falling in love with a car is foreign to me.
Each one I bought I was willing to walk away from. One of them, I can remember probably 5 members of the sales team huddle around my wife and I trying to get us to “yes”. We were still prepared to live without it if they didn’t meet us on our terms. (Try to find another person whose bought a brand new 911 for 20% off MSRP.)
Emotional investment decisions as well as purchases ought to be removed from one’s life entirely, in my opinion. Even the house we recently bought, the one I’m seated in right now, was one we were perfectly willing to let go of if the sellers didn’t sell it on our terms. It was bought for 19% off their asking price, which wasn’t unreasonable.
There’s always a deal out there somewhere, and it’s far easier to find it if you remove as much emotion from the situation as possible- especially if you’re paying cash.
