I fell in love with Tacoma 4wd trucks as a work truck in the boonies, after decades driving Fords and Chevys that were often in the shop, mostly due to the failure of cheap materials. The same held true for the 2000 1500 GMC Sierra (Chevy Silverado) I drove for 19 years as a private vehicle.
I ended up buying a used 2012 Tacoma in 2019 after the Sierra gave out. It was a double cab 4WD V6 full sized bed beast that would go anywhere and tow my small travel trailer like it wasn't there. Not the most comfortable ride but a work horse with no mechanical issues and all the bells and whistles, bought for 20k off a lot. I drove it for 4 years after moving to the east coast where I really couldn't put it to good use anymore after awhile and sold it for 19k to CarMax with 110k miles on it. It looked and ran like new in 2023 when I sold it. I could have gotten more than I paid for it on a private sale.
I would never own another truck other than a Tacoma. I would suggest buying used to let the previous owner pay the small amount of depreciation.
