Personal Finance (Not Investing) • The cost of not using credit cards with rewards?

* I respect the decision of merchants who have implemented a fee for credit usage. One store I patronize implemented a 3% fee, and taking into consideration the 2% cashback I would earn with the card, I consider the net 1% I'm giving the merchant worth the convenience of not having to keep cash on me.
Did they also add a fee for debit ?
At my veterinarian, I pretend it's 1994 and bring my checkbook to appointments to avoid the 4% fee.
Again, are they also charging you 4% fee for debit ?
I just had the chance to check with both establishments yesterday. Both my 4% vet and the 3% retail store charge their fees for both credit and debit cards. Any time the card machine is run.
My only complaint is gas stations that advertise the cash price on their billboards but leave the credit price to be a surprise when you are in front of the pump; since it's not as readily advertised, I would avoid a particular gas station in the future if I ever found the increased credit price greatly exceeded the 3% I earn by using my card, but so far I've never found this to be the case.
Gas stations here will display both the cash price and credit card price on their billboards.
Some gas stations don't accept credit cards at all, and display only one price. They do accept cash and debit cards, generally.
I wish gas stations in my area would display both prices. Instead, they keep the credit price a surprise, but as before, so far the credit price hasn't outweighed the cashback earned for me by more than I'm willing to pay for convenience of using a card.
