Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Grandparent-Owned 529's a bad idea?

Grandparents' owned 529s are accessible by Medicaid should they ever need it, may get drained quickly by Long Term Care.
But, isn't it true that the 529 plan is treated like any other gift, with just a 5 year look back?

I thought I read that info somewhere.

Hi Broken Man 1999, did this question ever get answered to your satisfaction ? We have grandparent 529s in PA. Funded each grandchild with 10k at birth. If we need Medicaid in the future, like next 20 years, is it the 10k that could be clawed back or the full value of the 529, I.e. 10k plus 20 years of growth….
