Personal Finance (Not Investing) • The cost of not using credit cards with rewards?

Brevard NC ( a bit south of Asheville) is an exception.

Local businesses (including restaurants) routinely charge a 3% fee on credit card purchases. Not the case for transactions with national chain outlets (Lowes, Burger King, etc.) I don't know the story about how this became the community practice.

Do you know whether the local residents mostly continue to use credit cards at these businesses or have they switched to cash?
