Non-US Investing • Roth IRA contributions for non-US citizen in the UK

My gut feeling is that you can, if you are considered a US person (which you are by filing jointly) and that you have earned income to your name. Dividends can't be used to contribute. I think a special election needs to be made for you to be considered a US person when filing IRS taxes, make sure that it is the case. And don't neglect FATCA and FBAR.

Since you have elected for the FTC instead of the FEIE, you should be able to contribute to an IRA.
