Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Seeking advice: card charged 9 months late

OP isn't arguing here. OP is looking for ideas. OP is being stuck with a bill which was paid by someone else.
This bill wasn’t actually paid by anyone else:
Yes, the person who tried to pay (a parent) was never charged.
To OP: I get that this is an unwelcome surprise expense. I also can imagine that - depending on the family - it could be awkward to bring this up with the parent whom you’d think might notice a $1000 charge not showing up on their statement. And yes, annoying that this is happening so late, presumably because the hotel bookkeeper only now noticed the balance due.

In the end though, these things happen and aren’t worth getting incensed about, and as someone said, you came out ahead with the delay. Also 18% tip is pretty much de rigueur for parties of 5, 6, or more at anywhere from the Olive Garden on up.
