How many people live in the house ? Do you need to keep all the rooms heated or cooled all the time ?
If not, a zoned system makes a lot of sense. I put in Carrier infinity system 14 years ago. Our home is 4600 sq ft. 2 furnaces, two AC units. 10 zones.
PG&E energy audit says we are in the very bottom of gas usage for comparable size homes. And their AI can't even detect the cost of AC in our Smartmeter data.
That is because we turn the heat or AC on only when entering that particular room.
System was $35k 14 years ago, but there was about $5k worth of rebates.
If you have only 2 occupants in a 3000 sq ft home, it can make sense. For a large family, it may not.
The one downside with Carrier Infinity is that it won't work with smart thermostats. It uses a special bus.
