Thanks for the reply David
I didn't have any of the stuff you mentioned ( incentive stock options, or depreciation figured differently under AMT). I had about the same type of stuff on the years previous to 2022.
I guess you are talking about 2022 taking carryover loss of 0 for AMT. But it was not 0, just a number I cannot find in my 2021 return. I thought that if on 2021 I didn't have any schedule D for AMT, the assumption is that it's the same than schedule D for AMT. That's certainly what happens if I force in Turbo Tax (when I go to the form view), to generate a schedule D for AMT. I can only guess than in 2022 I enter garbage some place in TurboTax.
For 2023, TurboTax still generates a schedule D. 'Capital Loss Carryover Worksheet' is corrected for 2023 (using values of 2022) and 2022 (using values of 2022). So perhaps Turbotax 2023 file keeps info from 2021 and realized that it did wrong computations (i.e. trying to fix the consequences of a bug)? Still, it doesn't seem quite right to me if I assume that for 2021 schedule D should be the same than schedule D for AMT.
I seem to have selected the non-simplified method for AMT for 2021 taxes (the interview process for 1116 for 2022 tells me so), rest of years I selected simplified method. I guess there is no way of confirming, since the 1116 form for AMT was never generated. You are not supposed to change from non-simplified to simplified, but since AMT is not generated (neither 1116 for AMT), it would not seem that it's relevant at all and Turbotax should not even store that info from the previous taxes. I wonder if this is part of the bug.
