Personal Consumer Issues • We want a new hot tub / spa — in ground?

We've had our outdoor electric, stand-alone hot tub for nearly 15 years. We live in Nashville, and typically only use it Oct-March.

I drain it each year and fill it back up when it the seasons change; I even went so far as to put a direct hot water line out to the tub area for use in both filling it and topping it off (with shunts to completely drain the line after each use). DW absolutely loves it after working out outside in the cold months.

When renovating the house, I designed things so that it is two steps from our bathroom, with a deck that is just a couple inches below the top of it.

Word to the wise--if you design it with a deck built around it, make sure that it is easy to disassemble a section of the deck to allow you or your contractor to pull the entire tub out if it needs to be taken off-site for repairs! (I managed with a reciprocating saw, but rebuilt that area to make it much easier when/if it happens again.)
