Personal Consumer Issues • Electric mower for mulching

Based on recommendations here and elsewhere, I bought a battery powered EGO self propelled 21" and have used it for 3 full mowing seasons.

I bag during the cutting season, and in the fall I use it to bag (essentially vacuum) the leaves. I found I had too much thatch when I mulched but it worked fine for that. The battery lasts a full mow (about 4000 sf of sod) even in self propelled mode, mowing every other week and even carting around what is a fairly heavy and full bag of clippings.

I will NEVER use a gas mower again.

This thing starts with just the push of a button 100% of the time.
There is no need to winterize it.
It is very quiet - I can mow early and late without bothering the neighbors.
If I start mowing too late in the evening, it has a headlight!
I can turn on the self propelled with the push of a button.
I can store it inside without concern about gas.

The only service I do is take off the blade and bring it in to the local hardware store to get sharpened over the winter.

I got tired of futzing with winterizing the gas mower, and trying to start it by yanking the d--- string, and not having it start. So I switched to an old fashioned push mower, but thought it might give me a heart attack with the effort it took to go up a small slope. Then I priced out a blow & go lawn service. Then I saw the EGO on sale, and figured even if I used it only one season, the cost of the mower was less than the cost of a service for a season. The EGO has solved all the issues and annoyances of the gas mower, and made mowing fun again.

Funny story: Went out to mow one Friday eve, and saw my neighbor was in his driveway trying to start his gas mower, and cussing at it. I pulled out my EGO, started it with the push of a button, and had completed about half of my front yard while having a conversation with him about how easy this thing is to start and how well it works, before he finally got his mower started. Once his gas powered started, we of course had to end the conversation because we could not hear each other over the din. 2 weeks later I saw he had acquired a battery powered motor. Neighborhood is now much quieter - I think he was the last holdout. There are now 4 Egos, 2 Ryobis and a push reel mower all living in a row one after another.

The only thing that would get me to replace this is if Ego made a battery powered reel mower.
When/if this thing bites the dust, I'll buy Ego's then current model or seek a battery powered reel mower.

Just get one (and no I don't work for Ego).
