Personal Finance (Not Investing) • FreeTaxUSA does not support Form 1116, Schedule B

As has been mentioned in some message threads in the past here at Bogleheads.org, FreeTaxUSA STILL does not support Schedule B of Form 1116 (Foreign Tax Carryover Reconciliation Schedule). This form has been around for a couple of years or so, so I'm really disappointed that FreeTaxUSA still doesn't support it.

I sent a message to FreeTaxUSA a few days ago, and this is the reply I received:

"I'm sorry that FreeTaxUSA is not currently able to assist you with your current tax circumstances. It is true, the software does not currently support filing Form 1116. You will want to use a different tax service to file your tax return this year. Hopefully this will be available within our software in the future."

The instructions for Form 1116 state that Schedule B must be included if the taxpayer is carrying any unused Foreign Tax Credits forward or backward, so I assume that if I e-file my federal tax return through FreeTaxUSA (with Form 1116 included, but not Schedule B), it might get rejected by the IRS, or FreeTaxUSA will simply state that they can't e-file my return.

FreeTaxUSA's instructions on their website say that taxpayers with Form 1116 Schedule B should print and mail their return rather than e-filing, which I do not want to do.

I'm thinking of simply entering my 2023 tax return data (taken from the tax return PDF I printed from FreeTaxUSA's website after I entered all of my data there) into the IRS Free File Fillable Forms option on their (IRS's) website and e-filing from there, but it is frustrating that I can't just e-file via FreeTaxUSA instead. Plus, if I don't e-file my federal return via FreeTaxUSA, I can't e-file my state (N. Carolina) return there, so I'd have to mail a hard copy of that return, which I'd rather not have to do.

Why can't FreeTaxUSA make the seemingly simple change of adding Form 1116 Schedule B to the forms that they support? Is there any chance that they'll do so during this tax filing season in the next few weeks? (I won't hold my breathe for that.)
