I have a similar mystery that I just discovered. About three years ago, I closed a Vanguard Jt Tenants WROS account, transferring all of the assets into a Vanguard Tenants in Common account. I'm still with Vanguard and can still view the old account, which has had a zero balance for the past couple of years. This weekend I noticed the old account had generated a little over 40 cents of interest and now has a balance of just over $165 in it's settlement fund. The source of that money is "Dell technologies Corp (Merger)." I do not own any shares of Dell, and I don't remember ever owning Dell back when I was an ignorant active investor fifteen to thirty years ago. Total mystery to me. I plan on calling Vanguard this week to see if they can explain. I'm not complaining at getting the unexpected money, but I at least want to again zero out the balance in the old account.
