Personal Consumer Issues • Another 'should I get solar' question

What size system is this $18,000 net investment? What state are you in? Do you have net metering with your utility?

Your $290 average per month does not jive with average of 1100 kWh per month at $0.10 (or even $0.13) per kWh -- 1100 x $0.10 = $110.

I'm a solar owner in southern CA where we pay absurd electric rates and we get a lot of sun. Solar made sense under our prior net metering rules (NEM 1.0 and NEM 2.0). It's making little sense now with NEM 3.0 rules.

Without knowing more to me you are a very poor candidate for solar from an economic ROI point of view.
mjg, that was my gut impression--that under CA NEM 3.0 it makes little to no sense. But I'm not sure how to best run the numbers on this so confirm. We're looking at getting one, or maybe even two, electric vehicles, and I'm wondering it that would maybe make it more economical. Thoughts?

I wish there was a good spreadsheet or online calculator into which I could enter data and get a good answer. The online calculators I come across seem to be marketing material for solar companies.
