A month ago we flew to Shannon from Newark on United, but not business class. Our flight, which was a bit under 6 hours from Newark, was $558 round trip. That included flying to Newark from our home in Memphis, so maybe it would have been even less from Newark? We only traveled economy until a few years ago but as our savings have risen, we have progressively moved to business class. In fact, we only travel in business class for international and domestic transcontinental flights.
Rather than try to accumulate FF points, my approach is simply to pay cash but travel off-peak. Earlier this year in April we traveled to Ireland for a vacation in United business class for $4000 round trip from Newark.
So did the 2 of us pay $6700 less than business class? Seems like a no brainer.
We could certainly afford business class, but would be uncomfortable knowing how much $$$ we were wasting.
