I've yet to see anyone mention one of my favorite space opera novels, The Cassini Division, by Ken Macleod.

Cassini's Division is the term for a gap in the rings around Saturn, but this novel is about an elite military force that mans the forts around Jupiter, guarding against mischief from the godlike post-human uploaded beings that frolic in the electrosphere of that planet and bombard earth with transformative data viruses. Ellen May Ngewthu, a soldier of that force, has a plan to eliminate the threat once and for all.
Thanks for the rec, will check that out. Hard to see it topping Scalzi but I'm up for a bit of space opera more often than I'd care to admit.

Really enjoyed the Quarter/etc Share books, even with a few niggles here and there.

Not scifi, but in the semi-related fantasy realm will throw a pointer towards Legends and Lattes if enjoying books focusing on the joys of coffee :beer

But for scifi not sure I've seen a mention of Ninefox Gambit. That and Anathem have a nice heavy dose of mathy scifi. Somewhat like the poetry based world of Memory of Empire. Really got wrapped in those worlds.
